This project started out as a tank removal/soil remediation project which turned into an underpinning job with an expanded soil remediation footprint as well. An abandoned cesspool was uncovered while excavating for the fuel tanks and the exposed foundation walls were deteriorating so the decision was made to underpin the foundation in addition to the remediation work.
Project Summary:
- Helical Pile Type: 7′ lead, 3 5′ Extensions for each helical
- # of Helical Piles: 9
- Location: Woodbine, NJ
- Installation Depth: 22′
- Helix Plates/Ultimate Pile Capacity: 16 Kips
- Equipment Used: Volvo EC60 Excavator
- Challenge/Unique Aspect: The building consisted of a newer addition and an older section. The older section’s foundation was deeper and not as structural sound as the newer one, so angle iron was installed underneath the footer. The previously unknown cesspool was at a corner of the building causing Northstar to have to reach over it to install the helicals while not collapsing the cesspool which would further complicate the remediation process.
- Danbro Installer: NorthStar Environmental Services LLC
- Engineer/Architect: Endicott Engineering
