- Challenge/Unique Aspect: Back when coal was king, this underdeveloped neighborhood was a dumping ground for coal ash. The 6″ grout column surrounding the helical extensions protects the steel from the corrosive ash fill. The Grouted Helical Micropile also achieves added capacity through the rough surface of the grout column providing a less expensive pile which saved money with 207 piles over the three contiguous lots.
