Ocean City was undertaking a major sewer infrastructure replacement/repair of the Trunk lines encompassing approximately 12 miles through the middle of their downtown. Helical piers were selected to support the sewer pipelines due to the ease of mobilization (and demobilization) and a neighbor friendly, no vibration install through a busy downtown area with lots of residences and businesses.
Project Summary:
- Helical Pile Type: IDEAL 3.5″ Pipe Piles
- Location: Ocean City, ME
- Installation Depth: 30′
- Equipment Used: Komatsu 78 Excavator
- Challenge/Unique Aspect: A marsh mat around 15′ below grade required a deep foundation and the liquidization of soils caused by alternative piling options needed to be avoided. Additionally, mobilization and rapid demobilization, lack of noise and vibration, all made helicals an easy call.
