In Connecticut, there are approximately 200 miles of mainline track overhead powerlines juicing the trains. For 20+ years, the Office of Rail has undertaken the monumental task of complete replacement, while still operating the nation’s busiest commuter rail service.
Project Summary:
- Helical Pile Type: 2″ Square Shaft
- Location: Bridgeport | Fairfield | Westport | Norwalk, CT
- Challenge/Unique Aspect: The challenges by using Helical tieback anchors eliminated the temporary soldier piling and lagging retention system and proved to be both cost effective and time efficient. The helical anchors were installed at skewed angles with careful precision to avoid the existing stone abutment. At all times during construction, two tracks of the four-track bridge were in operation. Construction took place between the morning and evening rush hours. Demobilizations needed to take place immediately upon notification.
