A high rise apartment building in Philadelphia with a crawl space and no basement was being constructed on a site with an upper layer of contaminated soil. In lieu of sheeting and shoring of the perimeter of the site and the removal of the bad soil, helicals were installed through the contaminated layer to a suitable bearing strata.
