Amanda Moffat Pottery 457 Degraw Street

The original design for an addition of a second floor Penthouse to an existing building called for 9″ micro-piles to reinforce the foundation and support the additional load. The micro piles presented numerous site issues. The builder requested an alternative foundation solution and Danbro provided one. Successful compression and lateral load test confirmed the viability of helical piles.

Project Summary:

  • Helical Pile Type: 3.5″ Pipe Piles (.300 wall)
  • #  Helical Piles: 43
  • Location: Brooklyn, NY
  • Installation Depth: 27′
  • Helix Plates/Ultimate Pile Capacity: 40 Tons Compression – 2.5 tons Lateral
  • Equipment Used: Mini Excavator with 12K Drivehead
  • Challenge/Unique Aspect: Access, mobilization, no-vibration and a clean installation dictated the use of helical piers for this challenging project inside an existing building. Danbro installer, Persi Contracting, used a mini-Excavator with a 12K drivehead to overcome the numerous site issues cutting a month off the construction schedule while providing considerable cost savings over the originally specified micro piles.
