A developer in Cambridge Massachusetts was building two new homes. A test pit was dug and it was discovered that the weak soils would not support a slab on grade foundation. A test helical pile was installed and through the quick work of the engineers and contractor alike, a helical deign was created and work commenced keeping the job on schedule.
Project Summary:
- Helical Pile Type: 1.5″ Square Shaft Transitioned to 2875 Pipe Material
- # of Helical Piles: 36
- Location: Cambridge, MA
- Installation Depth: 35′
- Ultimate Pile Capacity: 30 kips
- Equipment Used: Hitachi Excavator, 12K Drive Head, Marian Torque Indicator
- Challenge/Unique Aspect: A square shaft lead section with higher torque values (transtioning to pipe) speeded and facilitated the work and all 36 Piles were installed in two days.
